WHY Undergraduate Research (Curricular research-intensive engagements)?
Students engage in a comprehensive research project within their coursework, which may involve formulating or choosing research questions, employing various methodologies, utilizing conceptual frameworks or creating project management plans.
They also analyze and synthesize gathered data or information and demonstrate their understanding of research findings in relation to the broader academic literature (honors thesis, directed studies and applied research courses).
Benefits and Outcomes
Practical Integration of theoretical learning: Students can bridge the gap between theory and practice by applying their classroom knowledge to present scenarios.
Comprehensive research experience: In a research-intensive environment, students gain full ownership of their projects, from formulating research questions and selecting appropriate methodologies to effectively communicating their findings.
Enhanced supervised learning: With extended, supervised guidance, students achieve deeper understanding and develop advanced skills over time.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Duration
Timing can vary but undergraduate research projects are typically completed within one or two terms of academic study (depending on course or program and may involve additional time commitments). The specific timelines will be determined within the context of your course.
Recognition/compensation
Curricular research-intensive experiences are unpaid opportunities, students receive academic credit as part of a course.
ELIGIBILITY AND APPLYING
Program Requirements
