    WHY Practicum/Preceptorship?

A practicum or preceptorship is a hands-on experience where students observe or assist a licensed or registered professional in applying disciplinary concepts within a professional setting.

This type of experience is often required for professional competency. During the practicum, students do not have an independent workload or caseload.

    Benefits and Outcomes

    • Engaging in a practicum/preceptorship allows students to hone skills essential for their chosen profession.
    • Often a specified number of practicum hours is mandatory to fulfill graduation and / or accreditation criteria.
    • Students gain firsthand workplace experience with direct supervisor and support during their practicum.
